GAME DAY

When Do You Tailgate?

We tailgate for every home UT football game; the 2019 dates are listed here. We may tailgate for select road games as well.  Keep up to date by liking our Facebook group page or following us on Twitter.

Where Is the Tailgate?

We tailgate in 3 unique locations.  See Location/Maps page for information about where we'll be for your game.

What Time Should I Arrive?

Arrive as early as possible! Texas football games are the most attended events in Austin.  Traffic and parking can be a mess!  For games that start at 11:00AM and 2:30PM plan to arrive at least 2.5 hours before kick-off; For games at 6:00PM or 7:00PM plan to arrive at least 3.5 hours before kick-off.  These are just suggestions, but honestly, I would get down there as soon as you possibly can.  If it's a big game then I would add an hour or two to the times suggested above.

Where Do I Park?

Parking in the tailgate lots is not available.  You will need to park on the street in a metered spot, but to get one close, you'll need to arrive super-early!  Your best bet is to park in a public parking garage or the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum's underground parking garage.  Arrive early! Garages fill up on UT game days. Tip: Carpool, take a cab or ride-share. Check here for parking maps.

Is There a Fee to Attend?

Yes, you will need a ticket to attend the tailgate. To donate and get your ticket, click here - OR - you can help us set up in the morning and get a ticket without a donation! Click here for more info. Your entry gives you access to open bar, food and more!  You can also upgrade to VIP at certain tailgates and get much more!

What Should I Bring?

Although most items are provided or available to you upon entry, some things to keep in mind are: Any special food or drink that you want or money for tipping, a tailgate/camping chair if you want to sit, sunscreen, comfortable clothes and shoes, a poncho or umbrella in case it rains, a camera, a designated driver! If you have questions about an item you want to bring, please contact us.

Is Food and Drink Included?

Yes! Food and drink (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) are included with your admission to the tailgate. We are within walking distance of a few places.  You are always welcome to bring your own food and drinks (but a donation to enter is still required.)

What are Wristbands For?

You will receive a wristband at the tailgate when you make your donation, present your ticket, transaction receipt or present a Season Pass at the check-in desk at the tailgate.  You must have on a tailgate wristband in order to enter.

How Do I Get a Wristband?

Wristbands are available to any non-impaired adult when you donate, present a valid ticket, season pass or you help set up the tailgate in the morning.  Minors can get a wristband for a smaller donation, which includes entry with food and non-alcoholic drinks.

Is this a Place to Party or Sit Back and Relax?

We're mostly a party!  There's a lot of drinking, a lot of drinking games and a lot of alcohol flowing.  We host a lot of bachelor parties and the like, so the setting may not be appropriate for everyone.  If you're looking for a quiet place to tailgate in peace before the game, we're probably not your best bet, honestly.  But you may be able to find a quiet corner!  Come check us out and make that decision for yourself - we'll let you come in and look around before deciding to join us.

Will You Have the Texas Football Game On TV?

Absolutely! We will watch the UT football game at the tailgate, even if it's on pay-per-view. We will watch other games throughout the day as well on the available TV's.  We will show all games broadcast on the Longhorn Network.

What Happens If It Rains?

We tailgate rain or shine! We have a ton of space covered by canopies, so you will stay dry.  In our history, it has only rained a few times and never the whole day.

Can I Bring My Dog?

If you REALLY want to, but it is not recommended. It's very crowded, extremely hot and we tailgate on asphalt. There is not a grass patch suitable for them to play or relieve themselves on.  If you do choose to bring them out, they are required by law to be on a leash and not tied to anything. Please leash them and accompany them at all times. If it becomes a problem, you may be kindly asked to leave without a donation refund.

Can I Bring Friends?

Sure! The more the merrier - even if they are from the opposing team; just make sure everyone is respectful.

Isn't It Too Hot To Be Outside All Day?!

Yes and No. Is it hot? oh yeah. Too hot to tailgate? NEVER! We have a ton of canopies, we have a full misting system, multiple fans blowing and ice water available. If it's cold outside, we enclose the tents and blast heaters!  We do everything we can to make it as comfortable as possible for everyone. If you have any suggestions to make it more comfortable, please contact us.

What Is There To Do?

We have multiple activities that you can do.  The TV is up and running all day, you can join in on a game of corn-hole or beer pong or just socialize and meet new people.  There are multiple tailgates in the area that you can visit and we are within walking distance of UT's Bevo Blvd  and 104.9 The Horn's "Tailgarten" at Scholz Bier Garten.  You can meander around the Bob Bullock Texas History Museum or UT Campus.  With your tailgate wristband, you can come and go as you please!

Where Do I Use the Restroom?

Upgrade to VIP and get access to private, lighted port-a-potties (paper and hand sanitizer included!) There are port-a-potties available in some areas for the general public. We are also within walking distance of some indoor restrooms.

Can I Bring My Kids?

Absolutely! But remember, this is a tailgate in a University setting. There is a ton of alcohol and there will be vulgarity and things happening that are inappropriate for some children. We host a ton of bachelor parties and we are not responsible for what goes on there. There may be other kids around, so we do our best to make it as kid-friendly as possible, but ultimately, it is your responsibility to determine whether the situation is appropriate for your children. And of course, you are responsible and liable for them while they're at the tailgate. Minors are allowed entry and require a small donation to cover food and non-alcoholic drinks. Children 10 & under are free with ticketed adult.

Do You Host Events?

Yes! We host turn-key corporate events, bachelor/bachelorette parties, birthday celebrations, reunions and much more!  We can provide space, bar access, food and anything else you need to have a great time.  If you are interested in having an event, please contact us.

Will You Watch My Stuff While I'm at the Game?

Sure!  We have a new Bag Check service that's available to our tailgaters.  The stadium has a new clear bag policy, so no bags are allowed in. You can check your bag with us and/or pick up an approved clear stadium bag (if we have some).

What Time Does the Tailgate End?

Our tickets often say we close at 11:55pm, but that's a default end-time since there's no way to predict when the game will be over.  We are a tailgate and we "technically" end at the kickoff of the Texas game; however, we often continue to serve as we watch the UT game.  We typically stop serving by the end of halftime for liability purposes; however, we retain the right to stop service at any time.  We may remain open for special events and continue to serve.  If you have any questions or comments, please contact us.

Will You Run Out of Beer or Food?

It's possible we may run out of one thing or another, but we have never run out of everything!  We will serve until kick-off and may extend service while people are watching the game.  Service will absolutely stop as soon as half-time ends.  Unfortunately, we can not guarantee that we won't run out of your favorite drink or food item, but we've been doing this a long time and are pretty good at judging how much we need; however, sometimes things happen that may limit what we're able to provide.  You are welcome to bring in your own beer and food if you're concerned that we'll run out of your favorite item. Contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Where's the Ambulance!?

Our darling ambulance will not attend the tailgate; she's in semi-retirement.

Can We Watch Team A vs. Team B on ESPN?

If our satellite is up and running for the day, we will be happy to turn on the game for you (unless Texas is on).  If we are not using a Satellite feed for the day, we will show whatever games are on ABC, FOX, CBS or NBC using our over-the-air antenna.  We typically do not set up our satellite if the Texas game is broadcast over-the-air or we're streaming the game.  We will try to accommodate your request, but please understand that certain games may take priority over your request.

GENERAL

Are You a Professional Tailgating Company?

Nope, we're just a bunch of fans who are passionate about tailgating that have turned their personal tailgate into a place for others to enjoy.

How Much Does All This Cost?

Costs vary each season, but here's a good outline: Spot reservation: $15,000.00+. Ice, mixers, gas, satellite service, misc supplies: $2000.00+ per game. It costs roughly $25 - $40k per season to put on the tailgate. This doesn't include one-time costs such as infrastructure (canopies, fans, tables, chairs, satellite dish, etc.).  As you can see, it's quite expensive to throw a tailgate like we do!

Who Pays For All Of This?

The tailgate is funded privately by the owners of Horn-Ball.  Some money is received from our sponsors, but the majority of all costs are paid out-of-pocket.  This is why donations are so important to the long-term success of the tailgate.

Do You Accept Donations?

Yes! Absolutely! We need donations in order to sustain the level of success this tailgate has. We accept donations (cash, debit, credit) at each tailgate and donations through our website. Donating makes sure our tailgate continues! Please Donate Today! For more information or to donate online, send an email to ryan@horn-ball.com.

Do You Need Any Help?

YES!  We need volunteers each week to help us setup and breakdown!  We also need volunteers to help with certain aspects of the tailgate, this website and other important things. For more information about this, contact us.
